Over the past decade the Japanese beetle has emerged as a serious new pest in many parts of Colorado and is steadily extending its range within the state. Adults chew on the leaves and flowers of very wide variety of landscape plants commonly grown in the region and the grub-stage young can be serious pests of turfgrass. Better understanding the habits of this insect is fundamental to best managing it. Several methods can be used, including cultural controls, biological controls and selective chemical controls and the most appropriate ways to use these will be discussed.
